The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. by President Jim McKinney.
The first order of business was choosing the AHA club only competition for category specialty/historic/experimental beer. There were 4 entries presented. By a one vote margin the club choose the coffee & black pepper stout to represent the club.
Old Business:
The minutes of the last meeting are now posted on the KCBM.com and hearing no objections to the minutes they were approved as written.
The treasurer’s report was given. Steve Cook reported that the club cash and checking account balance was $5,971.13 and our August income was $63.23 while the August expenses were $204.37. It was suggested that the complete treasurer’s report be posted to KCBM.com. Further these reports will only be accessible by club members via a secure log in.
President Jim reviewed the up coming events including the competition and asked anyone who was interested in planning an individual phase of the club competition, scheduled for February 2012, to contact the competition coordinator Amy Satterlund. She has a compete description of jobs and duties that will be posted to the web site.
Jonathan Matthews reviewed the plans for the Octoberfest on Saturday October 8th @ 5:30 to midnight. The party will be free for members and guests will be charged $5. Please bring beer and dish (including main dish) for the pot luck dinner. Complete details will be on the web site.
Mead Day on Saturday August 6th was hosted by Roger Gibson and 15 people and produced 45 gallons of mead.
Elijah Hobbs is spear heading the production of a barrel aged Flanders Red Ale for the 30th annual competition in 2013. He has developed a recipe. Approximately 13 brewers will be needed to produce a 5 gallon batch each. The recipe was distributed to those interested and is also available on the web site.
The local interclub competition has been rescheduled to February 1, 2012. Bring your beers to be judged to the January 20th meeting.
New Business:
Roger Gibson, competition shipping coordinator, reported that entries were due for the Hoppy Halloween and FOAM cup. The Hoppy Halloween entries must be received at the competition by 21 October or at Bacchus and Barley Corn by October 17th if you want to participate in the $1 club shipping. The FOAM cup entries are due 12 November or 7 November @ B&B for club shipping.
The club welcomed 6 new dues paid members: Michael & Jonathan Crane from Leawood KS, Matt Corwin & Amy Ludwig from KC MO, Chris Roberts from Olathe KS, and James Prior from KCMO.

The members sampled 9 different homebrews during the meeting and also had a lively discussion of “Ask the Brewer.”
