KCBM HOMEBREW COMPETITION 2012:  YEAR OF THE HOP!

Picture of hops

Yep, it's that time again! The annual Kansas City Bier Meisters Homebrew Competition is February 17-18, so get your entries ready. Registration closes 5pm Saturday February 4th. All BJCP style categories for beer, mead, and cider will be accepted. Entries will be accepted in 12oz bottles and can be mailed in to or dropped off at Bacchus & Barleycorn in Overland Park.

Competition Theme

Our theme this year is HOPS! In addition to our standard beer & mead/cider awards, we'll have a special prize for the best beer, mead, or cider in our "Year of the Hop!" category. That's right - if it's hopped and entered into categories 10, 12B, 13E, 13F, 14, 16E, 19C, 23, 26, or 28D, it'll be considered in the theme Best of Show judging.

Speaker & Banquet Information

Our Saturday morning speaker is Boulevard's Jeremy Danner.

Saturday's banquet speaker is Stan Hieronymous, who has written several books and maintains a beer-related blog.

The awards banquet will feature courses from Kansas City's newest charcuterie shop, The Local Pig.

6pm: Hors d'oeuvres: free-range deviled eggs, grass-fed beef meatballs, and semolina pigs in a blanket with maple-onion relish.

7pm: Banquet begins and will be served family-style: Pate, pork belly stuffed with rosemary & roasted garlic sausage, root vegetables glazed in malt syrup, Vegemite sauce, and barley risotto with basil & hops.

Dinner will be followed by a cheese and jam course featuring locally sourced cheeses, candied nuts, fruit & herb jams
